4Knots Returns to Its Roots as a Free Music Festival in South Street Seaport for 2016

4knots Music Festival 2016It’s rare that a festival goes from being free to charging admission to being free again, but that’s exactly what’s happening with the Village Voice’s 4Knots Music Festival. Heading into its 6th year, the Village Voice announced that this year’s all ages fete will have a $0 price tag and will return to its original home in the South Street Seaport. The lineup has yet to be announced, but the festivities will take place on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Best to pencil it in now.

In 2015, 4Knots was uprooted due to construction in Lower Manhattan and took place at Pier 84 in Hudson River Park. Super Furry Animals, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Twin Peaks, and Mikal Cronin were among the bands that rocked out as fans watched from the pier and VIPs hung out on a massive yacht. GA admission set folks back $25, while VIP tickets were $50.

Prior to the odd year uptown, the festival had called the South Street Seaport home, setting up two stages and hosting such acts over the years as Kurt Vile & the Violators, Dinosaur Jr., Screaming Females, Titus Andronicus, The Black Angels, Mac DeMarco, and more. The day-long fete, which replaced the Village Voice’s much beloved Siren Festival in Coney Island, had been free to attend up until 2015.
