Vancouver’s Black Mountain delivered a face-melting performance of “Mothers of the Sun” to open last night’s 2016 Polaris Music Gala. You can watch the video below.

A certified rock anthem, ‘Mothers of the Sun” is off Black Mountain’s latest album IV, which is out now on Jagjaguwar. The record, which is the group’s first in six years, was short listed for the 2016 Polaris Prize.

The Polaris Music Prize annually honors artists who produce Canadian music albums of distinction. A panel of music critics judge and award the Prize without regard to musical genre or popularity. This year’s honor went to Kaytranada for 99.9%. Other bands on this year’s short list include Andy Shauf, Basia Bulat, Carley Rae Jepsen, Grimes, Jessy Lanza, PUP, U.S. Girls, and White Lung. Black Mountain, who recently completed an epic tour that included a string of North American shows, are about to hit the road again. The band’s upcoming schedule finds them rolling through New Zealand, Australia and Europe. All tour dates can be found below.
