Father John Misty Shares Post-Apocalyptic Stop-Motion Video for ‘Pure Comedy’ Track ‘Things It Would Have Been Helpful to Know Before the Revolution’

Father John Misty, aka Josh Tillman continues to amaze. Four months following the release of his masterful LP Pure Comedy, Tillman has popped out an exquisite, albeit bleak, video for album track “Things It Would Have Been Helpful to Know Before the Revolution”. A stop-motion animation, the video, which you can watch below, depicts a post-apocalyptic world in which giant alley rats and skateboard-riding cockroaches inhabit the earth. If you’re taken by the creatures featured, they’re currently being auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Environmental Defense Fund.

For the video, Tillman enlisted the help of Chris Hopewell, who you may be familiar with from Radiohead’s “Burn the Witch” and Run the Jewels’ “Don’t Get Captured”. The “…Revolution” visual was constructed and filmed in three weeks at Jacknife Studios in Bristol, UK. Priormade, who helped with the houses, posted their handiwork on Instagram. And, for those interested in other projects by Hopewell, you can follow along at Jacknife Films Instagram.

Father John Misty Revolution Stop Motion Video cockroachAs “….Revolution” is about the possible future direction of life on earth, Tillman is using the video as a way to raise money for the Environmental Defense Fund. The puppets from the video are being auctioned off, with the first auction starting today, August 3, and running through August 13. Go to Father John Misty’s official eBay page now to bid on cockroaches, alley rats and more.

Tillman, who may or may not be mixing his next album this week, continues to tour in support of Pure Comedy. He’ll be in Montreal this weekend at the Osheaga Festival. The closest he gets to New York City are shows at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester on September 14 and Skyline Stage at the Mann in Philadelphia on September 15. All dates below.
