Governors Ball 2016 Lineup Announcement & Flash Sale Happening at Noon EST

Governors Ball 2016 Lineup announcementThe 2016 music festival announcements are coming fast and furious these days. Coachella dropped its bomb at the beginning of the week, and today we have Governors Ball’s lineup to look forward to. Set your alarms now for the big announcement which comes at 12pm EST. It will coincide with a flash sale on festival tickets. Governors Ball 2016 is set to take place June 3-5, 2016 at Randall’s Island Park in New York City.

New York is not the easiest place to stage a festival, but where others have failed, indie company Founders Entertainment has triumphed. Now in its 6th year, the Governors Ball, which started as a one-day event with no overlapping sets, has blossomed into a serious 3-day affair with multiple stages, art installations, fun activities and upwards of 60 acts. Past editions have hosted the likes of Kanye West, Beach House, My Morning Jacket, The Black Keys, Nas, OutKast, Vampire Weekend, Jack White, Beck, Tame Impala, Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, The xx, The Strokes, Phoenix, The Lumineers, and Explosions in the Sky.

This past October the organizers of Governors Ball raised a red flag, as well as started a petition, when they heard AEG Live, the company behind Coachella, was planning on launching a festival in Queens. Tentatively called Panorama, the festival was supposed to take place June 17-19. However, due to some difficulties securing permits with their Flushing Meadows venue, AEG Live has had to push their festival back, so it’s less of a threat to Governors Ball. Both Madison Square Garden and Live Nation have also expressed interest in hosting music events in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Madison Square Garden’s dates are June 24 to 26, and Live Nation is looking at June 11, Aug. 6 and Aug. 20. Their applications are currently pending.

So, who do we think the big names at this year’s Governors Ball will be? Well, it looks like LCD Soundsystem may not be among them. James Murphy and gang were tied to doing something in New York City with AEG Live until Panorama fell threw. According to Consequence of Sound, they are now working on their own headlining concert in New York City, which makes it sound like Governors Ball is not in the cards. Safe bets are Mumford and Sons, Death Cab for Cutie, and Lenny Kravitz. All three acts are playing other US festivals in proximity to Governors Ball. Pearl Jam haven’t announced their tour plans, it would be a major coup it Governors Ball could nail them down. If Calvin Harris isn’t locked into something with AEG Live, there’s a possibility he might be there. We’re also hoping Father John Misty and the Last Shadow Puppets will throw Governors Ball a bone. Yeasayer just announced they are releasing a new album in 2016, so if they plan on hitting the road, they will probably be on the list. But rather then fret about who’s in and who’s out, it’s probably best to just sit and wait. All will revealed at 12pm EST today. Check http://governorsballmusicfestival.com/ for the big announcement. Tickets will be available on announcement day at $275 for GA, $600 for VIP. You can snag them here. We’re guessing only a limited quantity will be available, so act quick if you’re liking what you see.
