Details Announced for ‘The Hateful Eight’ 70mm Roadshow, Tickets on Sale Now

A supersized version of Quentin Tarantino’s latest film The Hateful Eight is coming to a city near you. Announced earlier today, The Weinstein Company has organized a special two-week roadshow engagement that brings Tarantino’s epic western in glorious 70mm to 100 theaters nationwide starting December 25 (check out the list of theaters here). The film’s theatrical digital release will then commence on December 31, overlapping the 70mm release for one week. Tickets to the roadshow engagement are on sale now and early bird purchasers could win prizes.

Tarantino has always been one to go big. For The Hateful Eight, he decided to shoot in Ultra Panavision 70, a rare format that provides a very wide and detailed image. Only a few films have been made in this format including It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Ben-Hur, Mutiny on the Bounty, Battle of the Bulge, and Khartoum, which was produced nearly 50 years ago and was the last film made using the format. Seeing The Hateful Eight in 70mm is only way to do it justice.

In addition to featuring the film in 70mm, the roadshow screenings showcase a longer version of the film that includes a musical overture composed by the great Ennio Morricone, and an intermission between acts. Moviegoers will also receive a special souvenir program that includes a centerfold pinup of one of the “hateful”. Exhibiting the film in this manner is Tarantino’s way of paying homage to how films were experienced in the 1950s and 1960s. Studios put great care into film openings back in those days, elevating them to grand events.

Tickets to the special roadshow engagement are available for purchase at tickets.thehatefuleight.com. And, for those that purchase in advance, there’s a chance you may win something in the “12 Days of Hateful Eight Giveaways”. Each day a different Hateful Eight prize, memorabilia or once-in-a-lifetime experience will be given away to lucky moviegoers.

The Hateful Eight stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Bruce Dern, and is written and directed by Tarantino.
