Kevin Morby Gets Help From King Tuff, Matt & Kim for Dreamlike ‘City Music’ Video

The countdown continues to the release of Kevin Morby’s City Music, which will be hitting shelves on June 16. Today, the musician released a wacky new video for the album’s title track. It features cameos by King Tuff, Brazilian singer Rodrigo Amarante de Castro Neves, and Matt & Kim (Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino). Check it out below.

Directed by Christopher Good, who also did the honors on Morby’s “Dorothy”, the video is very Gondry-esque. The musician appears to wake from a vivid dream that he tries to recreate for a video.

As for the actual track, in a press release, Morby gave some background on its conception. The song’s focus is its guitar line rather than its lyrics. He explains, “When it came time to write lyrics, I wanted to make something as relatable and simple as possible to conjure up the feeling of being elated by a city’s beautiful mania.”

City Music is out June 16 via Dead Oceans. Pre-order it here now. Morby continues to tour. His next stop is Bonnaroo this weekend.
