When Chad Ubovich isn’t making mischief with Fuzz co-conspirators Ty Segall and Charles Moothart, he’s grinding away with his other band, Meatbodies. In February, Ubovich released a new album, Alice, with said second act and this week the group will be playing a few gigs in New York City in support. We caught them at this year’s SXSW and were blown away by their grade A riffs. Check below for a sampling of what they’re made of.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Meatbodies’ core consists of Ubovich, Kevin Boog and Patrick Nolan. Past members have included Cory Hanson of Wand, and former Thee Oh Sees drummer Ryan Moutinho. You can see Moutinho performing with the band at a KEXP in-studio from 2015.

Alice, which is the group’s sophomore studio album, was recorded in San Francisco with producer Eric Bauer (Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, White Fence) at Bauer Mansion. The band have referred to it as being “metal on molly.” We’d characterize the Herculean effort as a potent elixir of garage, psych and glam.

Meatbodies will be playing three shows in New York, the first of which at Alphaville on Thursday (June 8) is sadly sold out.
