Moon Duo, Night Beats, Potty Mouth & More to Play MoMA’s Summer Thursdays Concert Series

Bands will once again be rockin’ the garden at MoMA, as the museum is reprising its weekly outdoor summer concert series curated by PopRally for 2016. Occurring every Thursday night in July and August, this year’s Summer Thursdays line-up draws inspiration from Bruce Conner. The ground-breaking artist is the subject of a comprehensive retrospective currently on view at the museum, Bruce Conner: It’s All True. For 2016, PopRally selected bands that embody the same unconventional spirit as Conner. Among the groups performing are Night Beats, Moon Duo, Potty Mouth, and Torres. The series kicks off tonight with Brooklyn Raga Massive. You can find the full schedule below.

MoMA has a long history of presenting free-with-Museum-admission concerts in their Summergarden in the warm weather months. Back in 2013, the museum’s PopRally division got involved with curating the bands for the museum’s Thursday night series and introduced some indie rock acts to the program. Over the years, Mikal Cronin, Widowspeak, Ducktails, La Luz, Ex Hex, and Lower Dens have all taken to the outdoor stage.

For the first concert in the 2016 series, Brooklyn Raga Massive, under the leadership of sitarist Neel Murgai, will be performing Terry Riley’s 1964 composition In C. You can a sampling of what’s in store below. In addition to catching the performance, which begins at 6:30pm, visitors can also get some evening viewing in of Bruce Conner: It’s All True or catch up with Edgar Degas: A Strange New Beauty, which closes July 24. The museum’s galleries are open until 8:30pm, and snacks and drinks are available for purchase at The Garden Bar. For additional information, visit the MoMA website.
