Monty Python to Receive Royal Treatment at Tribeca Film Festival

Just when we thought we’d seen the last of Monty Python with last year’s 10-show run at London’s O2 Arena, the Tribeca Film Festival is bringing the gang back together (minus the dead one). In honor of the 40th Anniversary of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is incidentally one of the funniest films of all time, the fest is hosting a multi-day salute to the famed troupe that revolutionized comedy. The festivities include the international premiere of Roger Graef and James Rogan’s documentary Monty Python – The Meaning of Live, as well as a special presentation of the Holy Grail along with screenings of Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life

Special presentation of Monty Python and The Holy Grail

The five surviving members of legendary comedy team, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, will assemble on Friday, April 24th at the Beacon Theatre for a glorious revisiting of The Holy Grail. The 1975 cult classic, co-directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, sees King Arthur and his knights embarking on a low-budget expedition in search of the Grail. The film harbors such memorable quotes as: “I fart in your general direction,” “It’s just a flesh wound,” and “Bring out yer dead.”

Monty Python – The Meaning of Live to have its International Premiere

Monty Python Meaning of Live Tribeca Film Festival The fun continues Saturday, April 25th with Graef and Rogan’s feature-length documentary Monty Python – The Meaning of Live. The film goes behind the scenes at Python’s 2014 reunion shows at London’s O2 Arena. Life of Brian also screens on the 25th and The Meaning of Life brings up the rear on April 26th. Q&A with members of Monty Python will occur following all screenings.
