Metrograph Celebrates Paul Thomas Anderson with Film Series

Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest, Phantom Thread, is sparking all sorts of repertory film series about town. The Quad recently hosted a 15-film send up of Phantom Thread’s lead actor, Daniel Day-Lewis. It included career highlights such as My Beautiful Laundrette (1985), The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988), My Left Foot (1989), and In the Name of the Father (1993), all screening in 35mm. Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn has a dashing and eclectic Fashion in Film Series populating its January calendar. And, now having a go is Metrograph, who is rolling out a five-film fest of P.T. Anderson’s films. The series kicked off on January 1 and runs throughout the month.

Along with the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and Wes Anderson, P.T. Anderson is a master craftsman who breathes new life into filmmaking. He doesn’t deliver movies, he delivers epics that should be seen in the theater in the largest format possible.

For its series, Paul Thomas Anderson x 5, Metrograph invites audiences to revisit five of his earlier works, all screening in 35mm. Included are There Will Be Blood (2007), Inherent Vice (2014), Hard Eight (1996), Magnolia (1999), and Boogie Nights (1997). You can find the trailers for these below. For a complete list of showtimes and ticket information visit Metrograph’s website.

As for Phantom Thread, it’s currently playing in select theaters and opens nationwide January 19. For a run down of where to catch it in 70mm, go here.
