Watch Andy Samberg Go ‘Popstar’ in Mockumentary’s Hilarious Red Band Trailer

Popstar Samberg trailerThe Lonely Island’s much anticipated mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping has a trailer (note: it’s a NSFW red band trailer), and it’s a show stopper. Obviously parodying Justin Bieber, the comedy’s tightly edited visual introduces us to singer Conner4Real (Andy Samberg) and the village it takes to make him dope, including his dj, lyricist, publicist, roadie, bagpiper, and fans, which are commonly referred to as connfidants (a riff on Bieber’s beliebers). You can watch it below.

Popstar is the handiwork Samberg and his longtime cohorts that make up the Lonely Island, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. The comedy profiles a singer/rapper at a crossroads after his sophomore album flops. Not only does Conner need to reassess his path, but his fans, sycophants and rivals are all left wondering what they’ll do when Conner’s no longer the hottest star of all.

Produced by Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Superbad, Knocked Up), the film is co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone, and written by the Lonely Island trio. In addition to Samberg, Popstar features Sarah Silverman, Imogen Poots, Tim Meadows, and Maya Rudolph, and many members of the worlds of comedy and music make cameos. In the trailer, we find Simon Cowell, Usher, Adam Levine and Carrie Underwood all playing along.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is slated to arrive in theaters on June 3, 2016 courtesy of Universal.
