Rio Olympics Watch Parties in NYC

If you haven’t yet found a sweet spot to consume all the excitement, we’d like to recommend five great places to watch in New York City. Go USA!


1. Citi Celebrates Team USA: Rio on the Hudson

Citi might not be an official credit card sponsor of the Olympics (VISA is), but they are a proud partner of Team USA. In a show of support to the athlete’s competing, Citi is hosting an Olympics party on the Hudson through August 11. In addition to watching all the action, goers can sample Brazilian culture, get interactive with a golf simulator, a virtual track & field race, and Paralympic equipment and meet Olympians.

2. NBC Rio Olympics Coverage on the Big Screen at The Paley Center
The Paley Center is teaming up with NBC to present daytime coverage of the games up on a big screen at its midtown digs. Open Wednesday through Sunday, you can pop in at lunchtime to catch up on latest action or park yourself there on the weekends. Screenings are free. 3. Rio Remotely at 837
Samsung is an official sponsor of Rio 2016, so you know they’re serious when it comes to the Olympics. Throughout the games, the Samsung concept store in the Meatpacking District will be an Olympics media hub. All the action will be play out on the stores three-story screen, plus, you can check out replays in virtual reality and nosh on internationally-inspired bites and refreshments. UPDATE: Samsung 837 is hosting a closing ceremony party. It will have a Brazilian theme with DJs, martial arts Capoeira dancers, and specialty Brazilian appetizers and cocktails. RSVP here. UPDATE 2: It appears that Samsung 837 has removed the closing party event from their website, perhaps the RSVP is full.

4. Olympics Restaurant Pop-Up
For the duration of the Olympics, Hunter’s in Brooklyn is transforming into Olympics Brooklyn, a pop-up restaurant where you can live the 2016 Rio Olympics. Hunter’s chef Bruno Vargas is Brazilian and will be serving up Brazilian fare and the Olympics will be screening.

5. 2016 Summer Olympics Viewing Party at Brooklyn Museum
The Brooklyn Museum is feeling the Olympics spirit. Currently on view at the museum is a bold and thrilling sports-themed photography exhibit, Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present. Curated by Gail Buckland, the show presents the work of 170 photographers and is on view through January 8, 2017. In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum is throwing an Olympics viewing party on August 18. It will be part of its Thursday Nights series hosted by Squarespace.
