Splish Splash, a Water Park Opens in Rockaway

Rockaway Water ParkThe list of reasons to go to the Rockaways just got little longer. Today, the first-ever water park opened in the hood. It’s not Blizzard Beach or Area 47, if that’s what your envisioning, but it does look like a ton of fun. Dubbed Rockaway Water Park, it consists of a Tarzan Boat docked in Jamaica Bay. For those not familiar with said boat, you’ll need to check out the sizzle reel below. It’s basically a floating water fun palace equipped with trampolines, high jumps, a rope swing, and a slide.

According to an article in The Rockaway Times, Rockaway Water Park is the brainchild of father and son team, Robert and Moo Kaskel. Robert is the man behind Thai Rock, a beloved thai eatery that overlooks the bay. Robert saw the video of the Tarzan Boat and was completely smitten.

On the Rockaway Water Park’s Tarzan Boat, which measures 12-feet wide by 34-feet long by 16-feet high, you’ll find a monkey jump, which offers a seven-foot drop; a high dive that’s a 14-foot drop; two trampolines that will eject you above the water at heights of more than eight feet; a Tarzan swing, and a slide. The company that makes the boat helped with its installation in Rockaway.

For opening day, Rockaway Water Park is offering free admission. Normally, tickets are $25 for 2 hours of playtime and can be booked in advance at this link.
