For those that couldn’t make it to Sundance this year, we bet you’re wondering when you’ll be able to check out all those buzzed about films. To assist you in tracking them all down, we’ve put together a roundup of the films that screened at the festival that currently have release, streaming or cable premiere dates scheduled. There are some projects available for viewing even as we type, like Chelsea Does and The Skinny.

Additionally, we have listed the films that have distribution but no release dates as of yet. Hopefully, it won’t take too long to get those into a theater near you.

Narratives
The Skinny
Refinery29’s six-part web series The Skinny follows feminist and wannabe YouTube star Jessie Kahnweiler as she navigates life, love and her struggles with bulimia. Sundance premiered the entire series and it is now available for viewing at refinery29.com.

Rams
Grímur Hákonarson’s Oscar nomination-deserving film Rams screened in Sundance’s Spotlight section. A dryly humorous charmer, the film is about a couple of estranged brothers who raise prize-winning rams in a small Icelandic town. Being distributed in the U.S. by Cohen Media, it opens in New York at the Film Forum on Wednesday, February 3 and in Los Angeles at the Royal on Friday, February 5 with a national rollout to follow.

11.22.63
Based on Stephen King’s New York Times best-selling novel, 11.22.63 is an 8-part series that stars James Franco as an English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The 2-hour pilot premiered at Sundance last week. The entire series is available for viewing on Hulu on Monday, February 15 (President’s Day).

Embrace of the Serpent
With an award at Cannes already under its belt, Ciro Guerra’s stunning, black-and-white film Embrace of the Serpent picked up the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at Sundance and is also nominated for an Oscar® for Best Foreign Language Film. Shot in the Amazonian rainforest, the story is inspired by the real-life journals of two explorers and revolves around Karamakate, a stubborn shaman who is the last surviving member of his tribe. The film opens in New York on Wednesday, February 17 at the Film Forum and Lincoln Plaza, and in Los Angeles at the Landmark Nuart on Friday, February 19 with a national rollout to follow.

Cemetery of Splendor
Thai writer-director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s hypnotic Cemetery of Splendor blends history and dreams. Having screened at Cannes, the New York Film Festival and now at Sundance, the film will open via Strand Releasing on Friday, March 4 in New York, Friday, March 11 in Los Angeles with a national rollout to follow.

Green Room
Jeremy Saulnier’s follow up to Blue Ruin is a horror-thriller that finds a punk band besieged by neo-Nazis in a backwoods Oregon club. Starring Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat and Imogen Poots, Green Room screened in the Spotlight section at Sundance and makes its way into theaters via A24 on Friday, April 15.

 

Miles Ahead
Miles Ahead, Don Cheadle’s passion project inspired by the life of Miles Davis, appeared at Sundance in the Spotlight section. It will arrive in theaters in New York and Los Angeles starting Friday, April 1 via Sony Picture Classics.

Sing Street
From writer/director John Carney (Once, Begin Again) comes the charmer Sing Street. Set in 1980s Dublin, the coming-of-age tale is about a boy named Conor who forms a band to woo the beautiful Raphina. The Weinstein Company has the rights and will open the film in limited release Friday, April 15 (updated 2/23).

The Girlfriend Experience
The first four episodes of Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz’s anthology series about a law school student who gets sucked into the world of “transactional relationships” had its premiere at Sundance. The series comes to Starz on Wednesday, April 20.

Viva
Ireland’s Oscar entry, Paddy Breathnach’s Viva centers around Jesus, a hair stylist who dreams of some day being a drag performer. Just as he catches his big break, his estranged father returns, throwing wrench in the works. Screening in Sundance’s Spotlight section, Viva will open in New York, Miami and Los Angeles on Friday, April 29 with a national release to follow.

Maggie’s Plan
Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke and Julianne Moore star in Maggie’s Plan, an endearing modern-day relationship comedy from Rebecca Miller (Personal Velocity). Screening in Park City in Sundance’s Spotlight section, the film is set for release in New York and Los Angeles via Sony Picture Classics on Friday, May 20.

The Lobster
The first English-language feature from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth), The Lobster is a brilliant absurdist romp with an all-star cast that includes Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, John C. Reilly, and Olivia Colman. The film screened in the Spotlight section at Sundance and will finally have a theatrical release in the US via Alchemy starting Friday, March 11. Update 2/16: The Lobster has been picked up by A24 amid turmoil at Alchemy. (via Variety) Release date is May 13, 2016 (Updated 3/23).

Love and Friendship
After previously acquiring streaming rights to Whit Stillman’s period comedy, Love & Friendship, which was adapted from a Jane Austen short story and stars Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny, Amazon closed a deal with Roadside Attractions to also give the film a theatrical release. It arrives in theaters May 13, 2016 (updated 4/7).

Swiss Army Man
Described as the farting corpse movie, Swiss Army Man won The Daniels (aka Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan) the Sundance Directing Award. The film, which stars Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe was acquired by A24 and will be in theaters June 17, 2016 (Updated 4/7).

Hunt for the Wilderpeople
The Orchard has acquired Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople, paying just under $2 million for North American rights to the adventure comedy, including a theatrical release. Waititi, who will helm the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok and co-wrote Disney’s Moana, wrote and directed Hunt for the Wilderpeople, which follows a defiant kid (Julian Dennison) and his foster uncle (Sam Neill) as they evade a manhunt in the New Zealand wilderness. The film arrives in theaters June 24, 2016 (updated 3/16).

Wiener-Dog
Todd Solondz’s dark and offbeat tale of a single dog and the various people she encounters during her short lifetime has been picked up by Amazon Studios and IFC Films. The film’s cast includes Ellen Burstyn, Kieran Culkin, Julie Delpy, Greta Gerwig, Danny DeVito, and Zosia Mamet. Weiner-Dog waddles into theaters June 24, 2016 (updated 5/17).

Captain Fantastic
Viggo Mortensen plays a dad who wants to raise his kids on his own terms in Matt Ross’ Captain Fantastic. Having its world premiere at Sundance, the film will be hitting U.S. theaters on July 8, 2016 care of Bleecker Street.

Equity
Starring Anna Gunn, Equity is the first female-driven film about Wall Street. Directed by Meera Menon with a screenplay by Amy Fox, Equity arrives in theaters via Sony Picture Classics on Friday, July 29, 2016. (updated 5/20)

Indignation
Summit Entertainment paid a reported $2.5 million for James Schmaus’ directorial debut, Indignation. Adapted from the novel by Philip Roth, Indignation stars Logan Lerman as a young New Jersey native who leaves behind his family to attend college in Ohio. The film is slated for release on July 29, 2016 (updated 4/7).

Birth of a Nation
Nate Parker’s Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize-winning biopic about Nathaniel “Nat” Turner, the man who led the most successful slave rebellion in US history, was picked up by Fox Searchlight in a record-breaking Sundance deal. It will arrive in theaters Friday, October 7. (updated 2/24 via Variety)

Manchester By the Sea
Amazon picked up the theatrical and streaming rights to Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea, reportedly paying $10 million and beating out studios like Fox and Universal. Manchester stars Casey Affleck as the reluctant guardian of his teenage nephew (Lucas Hedges) after the boy’s father (Kyle Chandler) dies. Written and directed by Lonergan, Manchester earned some of the most overwhelmingly positive reviews at the festival so far, with EW’s Chris Nashawaty calling it a “masterpiece.” Part of Amazon’s deal to acquire the film includes dollars for an awards campaign, which means we could see the streaming service at the Oscars this time next year. Manchester arrives in theaters November 18, 2016 (updated 4/7).

Chelsea Does
Chelsea Handler’s four-part documentary premiered in the Special Events section at Sundance. It is currently available for viewing on Netflix.

Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall
Director Spike Lee takes on the King of Pop and specifically examines the significance of Jackson’s solo album “Off the Wall.” Premiering at Sundance, Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall begins airing on Showtime on Friday, February 5.

JIM: The James Foley Story
Brian Oakes scored the Audience Award for his documentary about the life, death and legacy of the American frontline journalist who was kidnapped and killed by ISIS in 2014. JIM: The James Foley Story will broadcast on HBO on Saturday, February 6.

The New Yorker Presents
The New Yorker Presents is a new Amazon series that bring the pages of The New Yorker to life. Among the filmmakers working on the project are Alex Gibney, Steve James, Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. The first two episodes of the series premiered at Sundance and the first season of the series will be available on Amazon on Tuesday, February 16.

Trapped
Winner of the Special Jury Award for Social Impact Filmmaking, Dawn Porter’s abortion documentary gets a theatrical release on March 4 in New York and Los Angeles thanks to Abramorama. Prior to that date, it screens on Tuesday, February 16 at the IFC Center in New York City as part of the Stranger than Fiction series. The film is also the 2016 Athena Film Festival‘s opening night film and screens Thursday, February 18 at Barnard College. PBS’ Independent Lens will broadcast Trapped in June.

Becoming Mike Nichols
Directed by Douglas McGrath, Becoming Mike Nichols is an intimate portrait of director, producer, and improvisational comedy icon Mike Nichols. The film had is world premiere at Sundance and will air on HBO starting Tuesday, February 22.

Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures
Controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe is the subject of Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato’s new documentary Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures. The film was produced by HBO and will begin airing on the cable service on Monday, April 4.

Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper
Gloria Vanderbilt and her son Anderson Cooper explore the 91-year-old heiress-turned-jeans-designer’s life in Liz Garbus’ latest feature-length documentary Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper. The film screened in Sundance’s Doc Premieres section and will begin airing on HBO on Saturday, April 9.

United Shades of America
Socio-political comedian comedian W. Kamau Bell explores America’s racial stereotypes and lifestyles in United Shades of America. A CNN original series, a full episode of the show screened at Sundance. The series premieres on CNN on Sunday, April 24.

American Epic
Executive produced by T Bone Burnett, Robert Redford and Jack White, American Epic looks at the birth of modern music. The documentary screened in the Special Events section and will be broadcast on PBS on Sunday, May 1.

Under the Gun
Under the Gun, the documentary executive produced and narrated by Katie Couric that takes aim at the gun debate, has been picked up by premium network Epix. It will premiere on the channel and all its platforms on Saturday, May 14 at 8pm (Updated 2/18 via Variety).

Weiner
Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary Weiner about former New York Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has all sorts of plans laid out. The film was acquired by IFC Films and Showtime with Hulu getting in on the act with exclusive SVOD rights. The film will be released theatrically under IFC Films’ Sundance Selects label on Friday, May 20.

Unlocking the Cage
D A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus’ cinema verite-style animal rights documentary had its premiere at Sundance. It will get a theatrical release starting May 25, 2016 via First Run Features in association with HBO Documentary Films (updated 4/1). It will be broadcast on HBO starting in July.

Sundance Films Release Dates O.J. Simpson documentary

O.J.: Made in America

OJ: Made in America
ESPN Films’ first 30 for 30 miniseries event, OJ: Made in America, tells the story of OJ Simpson in 7.5 hours. It premiered at Sundance last week and will air on ESPN in June.

Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You
Sundance opening night film Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You is a definite chronicle of one of the most influential figures in television, writer/producer Norman Lear. Directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (the team behind the Oscar® nominated Jesus Camp), Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You was sold to American Masters Pictures/PBS who then did a deal with Music Box for theatrical. It is slated to be in theaters in June and will premiere on PBS in the fall. Netflix will handle SVOD.

Tickled
In Tickled, Kiwi journalist David Farrier gets more than he bargains for when he begins poking around into the world of competitive endurance tickling. Directed by David Farrier and Dylan Reeve, Tickled will be in theaters via Magnolia on June 17, 2016. HBO has TV rights. (updated 3/23)

Life, Animated
Roger Ross Williams’ documentary is based on journalist Ron Suskind’s book about his son Owen Suskind, an autistic boy who used Disney films to communicate. Life, Animated earned Williams a directing award at Sundance, and was picked up for distribution by The Orchard. It will be in theaters July 8, 2016 (updated 3/16).

Suited
Jason Benjamin follows the clients of a Brooklyn tailoring company that services the LGBTQ community in Suited. The Lena Dunham/Jenni Konner-produced film will appear on HBO in July.

Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise
Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack celebrate the life and work of Maya Angelou in their documentary Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise. The film was acquired by American Masters Pictures/PBS and will screen on PBS in the fall.
