More details have emerged about Tame Impala’s upcoming album Currents. The band’s much-anticipated third studio record is available for pre-order now and will be released worldwide on Friday, July 17. Eager beavers who ante up the cash now will receive four of the albums’ 13 tracks as instant grat tracks; these include previously leaked ‘Let It Happen’ and ‘Cause I’m a Man’, plus new tunes ‘Eventually’ and ‘Disciples’, which you can listen to here and here, respectively.

Kevin Parker is the driving force behind Currents, which he wrote, recorded, produced and mixed in Perth, Australia. Venturing into previously uncharted Tame Impala waters, the record has a mishmash of influences from fried 70s funk to 80s balladry. The psychedelia is still present, but Parker has cleared away some of the fuzz so you can hear his lyrics more clearly. The new sound reminds us of Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
