Gavin Edwards Makes Sense of Bill Murray’s Crazy Antics in New Book Coming in September, Watch the Trailer

Tao of Bill Murray book trailerAs much a character off-screen as on, Bill Murray’s real-life antics are the sort of thing you’d expect on an episode of Candid Camera. From reading poetry to construction workers to helping himself to French fries off a stranger’s plate, the Ghostbusters star’s eccentric behavior is nothing short of intriguing. New York Times Bestselling author Gavin Edwards was so enthralled with all the crazy stories he’d been hearing about the actor in the real world, that he decided to compile them for a book. Entitled The Tao of Bill Murray: Real-Life Stories of Joy, Enlightenment, and Party Crashing, Edwards’ volume is due out next month via Random House. You can check out the trailer for it below. (UPDATE: Sorry folks, it looks like the book’s publisher took down the trailer. UPDATE 2: The trailer is back online.)

Illustrated by Janelle Cahall and animated by Dylan Cahall, the trailer documents one man’s encounter with the actor. Employed as Harvey Keitel’s assistant during the filming of Moonrise Kingdom, Andrew Groothuis shared an incredible sing-a-long-fueled evening with Murray after the film had wrapped. Perhaps not as fantastical or outrageous as Murray’s golf cart caper, Andrew’s tale shows Murray to be as endearing in real-life as the characters he portrays on the big screen.

In addition to being filled with authentic stories Edwards uncovered during visits to places Murray had lived and worked over the last four decades, the book analyzes the actor’s behavior through a philosophical lens. In an interview Edwards recently did with LA Weekly about the book, the author explains that Murray’s crazy antics aren’t just random wackiness, but rather something the actor has put thought into. Edwards’ book offers a better understanding of Murray, and provides readers with principles distilled from Murray’s approach to life that, if followed, will hopefully bring more joy to everyday living.

The Tao of Bill Murray
will be released on September 20, 2016 and features illustrations by R. Sikoryak. The book is available for pre-order at the Penguin Random House website, Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
