Zipline, Water Slide & Other Fun Free Stuff at Summer Streets 2016


NYC Summer Streets 2016 Water SlideThe program that turns the seven-mile stretch of Park Avenue and Lafayette Street from Central Park to Brooklyn Bridge into a glorious pedestrian plaza for three consecutive Saturday mornings (7am-1pm) in August is back. Summer Streets is a car-free fest that in addition to shutting down the section of streets to traffic, also plays host to fun free activities like fitness classes, art-making workshops, a dog park, tastings, a zipline, and a water slide (advanced registration required). You can also enjoy live music and other performances. These festivities take place at five rest stops throughout the route, Uptown at 54rd Street, Midtown at 25th Street, Astor Place, SoHo at Spring Street, and Foley Square. Below are the highlights of what you’ll find at each rest stop.

Uptown Rest Stop
• Zipline
The Zipline has been relocated to 53rd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue this year. Those interested in partaking are encouraged to show up before 8am. First come, first served.

• Free popsicles courtesy of Hallmark Channel

• Citibank “Make It Here” installation
Week 2 will feature free tastings by local restaurants.

• Free bike rental
Both Central Park Sightseeing Bike Rental and Bike & Roll Bike Rental will be providing free rentals at the Uptown Rest Stop.

Midtown Rest Stop
• A Taste of Summer Sampling Zone
Free samplings from Cabot, Nuun, Gardein, Daiya, and Clif

• Free Pop-up Yoga

• Free bicycle rental
Bike & Roll will have 65 bikes available at the Midtown Rest Stop.

• Free bike repair by 5BBC

• Free bike helmets courtesy of DOT Safety Education
This station will be located at 24th street between Park and Madison.

• Free rollerblade rental and repair by Go! Sports

• Hand-cycle demonstration
Test out a hand-cycle at this rest stop.

Astor Place Rest Stop
• Paws and Play Dog Park
It’s a slice of doggy owner heaven in the middle of Manhattan. There will be a grassy knoll, small pools for dogs to splash around in, and an agility course.

SoHo Rest Stop
• Fitness Classes by Crunch

Foley Square Stop
• Vita Coco Beach featuring the Beachside Slide
All the slots for this weekend are filled, but if you want to do the slide in one of the upcoming weekends, sign up in advance here. For August 13, registration opens August 8, and for August 20, registration starts August 15.
