Watch the Trailer for New Blur Documentary ‘Blur: New World Towers’, Band Plays MSG This Week

For all you Blur fans out there, another documentary about the iconic British band is on the way. Titled BlurNew World Towers, the hybrid film details the foursome’s journey over the last few years and includes the story behind their new album The Magic Whip, as well as live concert footage from their recent shows in London and Hong Kong. You can check out the film’s trailer below.

The road to the release of The Magic Whip, Blur’s first studio record in 16 years, was not without its bumps. The group, which is made up of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James, and drummer Dave Rowntree, began work on the record in Kowloon, Hong Kong during a five-day break in touring in Spring 2013. The songs then sat dormant as the bandmates returned to their respective lives. Some 18 months later, Coxon decided to revisit the recordings with early Blur producer Stephen Street and the album began to take form. It was finally released in April 2015 via Warner Bros. In speaking with NME about its completion and longtime friend Albarn, Coxon explained “We’ve often let each other down. This album was a way of saying sorry.”

Through candid interviews with the band, Blur: New World Towers is said to explore the group dynamic and especially the complicated and enduring relationship between Albarn and Coxon. The film is directed by Sam Wrench (Mary J. Blige London Sessions), and will be released on December 2nd in UK with an international release to follow.

News of the documentary comes in advance Blur’s concerts in Los Angeles and New York this week. The band plays the Hollywood Bowl on October 20th and Madison Square Garden on October 23rd. Aussie singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett opens both shows. Tickets are still available.
