Brigid Dawson (Thee Oh Sees/OCS) Releasing Solo Debut, ‘Ballet of Apes,’ Listen to Lead Track, “Is the Season for New Incarnations”

Castle Face Records is delivering the goods this week. Besides dropping a care package from Oh Sees, the label announced via Uncut that they’re releasing Brigid Dawson’s debut solo album, Ballet Of Apes. The former Thee Oh Sees and OCS band member has dubbed her new project Brigid Dawson and the Mothers Network. You can check out Ballet Of Apes’ gorgeous and haunting, nearly six-minute lead track, “Is the Season for New Incarnations,” below. The LP is due out May 22.

Of the record, Castle Face describes it as “wise warnings dyed in dark hues, knotted and hard-won torch songs from the edge of a turbulent sea, bittersweet balladry spun in defense against evils familiar and unknown.”

Dawson enlisted a variety of collaborators. She recorded in Australia with Mikey Young (Total Control), in San Francisco with Mike Donovan (ex Sic Alps), Shayde Sartin (ex Fresh & Onlys), and Mike Shoun (ex Thee Oh Sees, Peacers), and in Brooklyn with Sunwatchers. Kyle Ranson created the album artwork.
