Françoise Hardy, François Ozon Team for ‘Persona’-Inspired Music Video for ‘Le Large’ (Watch)

When you’re one of France’s most famous singers it’s only logical that you’d enlist one of France’s most famous filmmakers to direct one of your music videos. Such is the case with Françoise Hardy. The 1960s French-pop icon has a new album coming out April 6th entitled Personne d’autre. For the first video off the record, she’s teamed with none other than French auteur François Ozon. The pair have come up with a beautiful and evocative black and white visual for album track “Le Large” that that channels Ingmar Bergman’s Persona. The sequence juxtaposes images of Hardy in the 1960s with present-day footage. You can watch the video below.

This is not the first time Hardy’s vocals have been paired with Ozon’s visuals. The prolific French filmmaker, whose credits include Under the Sand, 8 Women, Frantz, and Swimming Pool, has used Hardy’s songs in a few of his films. The crooner’s German-language song “Träume” appeared over the credits for Water Drops on Burning Rocks (2000), and a number of her songs were included in the soundtrack for Ozon’s erotic drama Young and Beautiful (2013).

Hardy’s upcoming record, Personne d’autre, will be her 24th release and her first since 2012’s L’Amour Fou. The 74-year-old singer worked with producer Erick Benzi on the album, which includes 10 original songs and two covers, a version of Michael Berger’s “Seras-tu Lá,” and an adaptation of Poet of the Fall’s single “Sleep.” The LP also features collaborations with La Grande Sophie (who wrote and composed “Le Large”), Yael Naim, Maissiat, and Thierry Stremler. You can find the full track list below.

Personne d’autre is out April 6 via Parlophone. It is available for pre-order here.
