Hamilton Leithauser and Kevin Morby Announce Fall Mixer 2021 US Tour, Trade Covers, Watch
With Covid-19 restrictions lifting, indie-rock troubadours Hamilton Leithauser and Kevin Morby are teaming up to tour to support their latest albums. Dubbed a Fall Mixer US tour, the musicians teased their upcoming co-headlining adventure yesterday. Each musician gifted the other a cover of one of their songs. Hamilton performed “Come to Me Now” off Kevin’s 2017 release City Music, and Kevin served up an abbreviated version of Hamilton and Rostam‘s “A 1000 Times” off I Had a Dream That You Were Mine. Both Hamilton and Kevin dropped their latest albums during the pandemic. The former Walkmen lead singer wooed critics and fans with his Glassnote Records release The Loves of Your Life, while Kevin channeled midwestern loneliness with Sundowner. Unable to tour until now, the men supported their releases via social media and livestream concerts.
The upcoming tour isn’t the first time Hamilton and Kevin have shared a bill. Besides booking several of the same summer festivals, Hamilton and Kevin played a three-band show with Fleet Foxes at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2017. Hamilton was touring around the release of his collaborative album with Rostam, I Had a Dream That You Were Mine. Kevin was celebrating the release of his fourth LP, City Music.
As for Hamilton and Kevin’s cover exchange, it kicked off with Kevin posting Hamilton’s video on his Instagram feed. The video starts off with Hamilton, adorned in a Sundowner t-shirt, performing a gorgeous rendition of “Come to Me Now” in a field in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with his family. However, around the 1 minute and 15 seconds mark, a text scroll explains that Hamilton sadly had some technical difficulties during the shoot.
A little later in the day, Hamilton posts a video of Kevin’s cover. Proudly wearing a The Loves of Your Life long-sleeve shirt, the cover shows Kevin lying in bed with his acoustic guitar playing a few bars of Hamilton and Rostam’s “A 1000 Times.”
Hamilton and Kevin’s 2021 Fall Mixer tour includes 29 shows across the US. Launching in Virginia on October 14, the pair hit the Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on October 27 (tickets) before circling back for two NYC area dates, Brooklyn Steel on November 17 (tickets) and Webster Hall on November 18 (tickets).
