We were beginning to think House of Vans had forsaken us this summer. Three shows in the spring and then silence. But, we are happy to report, the skatepark-cum-music venue is back in the free party hosting business and has three shows on the docket. The first takes place Thursday, August 13 and sports a killer line-up that features live performances by Julian Casablancas + The Voidz and Cherry Glazerr with a DJ set by Cerebral Ballzy. The series, which in previous years had been produced in conjunction with FYF Presents, is now in the capable hands of A-OK Collective. The LA-based creative agency, who was also responsible for the Almost Summer Series that featured The Julie Ruin, Parquet Courts, and Pusha T, are taking the House of Vans parties to a new level. They plan on transforming the already awesome 25,000 square foot indoor/outdoor spot into a carnival playground with interactive games, site-specific art installations by Nuit Blanche New York‘s Ken Farmer, and more. The food selection will also follow a carnival theme. Party goers can expect amusement park faves like hot dogs, snow cones and pretzels.

As for the series kick off, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz take to the stage in advance of The Immaculate Powerlords Tour, a jaunt that sees them crossing North America in support of last year’s LP Tyranny, see dates below. Opening for Casablancas and crew are on-the-rise LA garage rock trio Cherry Glazerr. Fronted by recent high school grad Clementine Creevy, the group have been picking up steam since the release of their debut LP, Haxel Princess, on Burger Records in 2014. Music-savvy Saint Laurent designer Hedi Slimane was so enchanted that she commissioned the group to write a song for her fall 2014 Paris runway show. In addition to the HOV show, the group are playing a paid gig with Honduras at Baby’s All Right on August 12.
