Live like an animal this weekend at Meltasia, the only music festival that has the courage to set up shop on the grounds of a former zoo in the Catskills. Those that make the trek to the scrappy, rockin’ three-day music and camping fête will enjoy performances by Pentagram, Kool Keith, Fat White Family, Sheer Mag, Shannon & the Clams and more. Plus, anti-comedian Neil Hamburger (aka Gregg Turkington) will be hosting the first two days of the festivities. It all gets underway on Friday, September 2 and runs through Sunday, September 4.

Founded by Stalkers frontman Andy Animal, the first official Meltasia took place in 2014 on Cherokee Farms in Lafayette, Georgia, 90 minutes north of Atlanta. A no guestlist, no VIP affair, the weekend-long party served up psych, rock, punk, garage, rap, camping, and revelry. The line-up included such acts The Black Lips, Nik Turner’s Hawkwind, Shannon & the Clams, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, T3rd, and Quintron & Miss Pussycat.

After taking 2015 off, Andy has moved the festival north to what was once “America’s Zoological Playground”. Opened in 1933 as The Catskill Game Farm, the spot was a privately owned zoo where visitors patted kangaroos and ogled at giraffes, elephants and other zoo-friendly creatures. Shut down in 2006, the land was bought by a new family in 2012, who renamed the 206-acre property The Old Game Farm.

Tickets to the fun include camping and are available in three-day ($120), two-day ($80-$85) and single-day ($40-$50) denominations. As for food and drink, the fest will have vendors on site selling those items as well as other essentials.
