Merchandise and Dum Dum Girls Sultry ‘Red Sun’ Out This Friday on Sub Pop

It’s the case of two great sounds that sound great together. 4AD signee Merchandise and Sub Pop’s Dum Dum Girls have joined musical forces and the results are quite eerie. A two-track collaboration, the first tune, “Red Sun”, premiered on Stereogum in October and has been hailed for its gorgeous gothiness, bewitching vocals, and seductive synth line. Come this Friday, November 27th, “Red Sun” and its b-side “Echo” will be released as a 7” single/DL from Sub Pop. You can pre-order it here.

The songs have a bit of a backstory:

“Red Sun” and “Echo” were both written after midnight. “Red Sun” is the story of love, power, and weakness. A 3 minute narrative about the mystery of human attraction and its hold on the psyche. “Red Sun,” played by Dee Dee, is half siren and half desert wanderer. She’s the temptress and the God of War the body of a girl who can make all men her victim. “Echo” takes place in the streets of Berlin. In “Echo” our narrator is lost in the madness of regret and lost love. In the warm streets of summer he’s frozen by his thoughts as if it were winter already.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out “Red Sun”, give it a listen below. Hopefully, these two groups will continue to make wondrous music together.
