‘Beavis & Butt-head’, ‘Cribs’ & Other 90s Shows to Air on New MTV Classic Channel

MTV Classic showsSo long VH1 Classic, and hello MTV Classic. Today, MTV shared its plans to replace its dad rock destination with a channel that dials up the 90s nostalgia. Those longing for old episodes of popular MTV shows like Beavis & Butt-head, Daria, Cribs, and Pimp My Ride will now be able to find these and more airing in primetime on MTV Classic. The channel rebrand goes into effect on Monday, August 1, which also happens to be the 35th anniversary of when MTV first debuted.

Revisiting the 1990s is definitely in vogue. Crystal Pepsi is making a come back, 90s-themed parties are all the rage, and there’s a Clinton on the road to the White House. It makes perfect sense for MTV to jump on the bandwagon and breakout its old fan-favorites. In addition to those mentioned above, viewers can also watch Run’s House, Punk’d, Jackass, and more. They will air Mondays through Thursdays in blocks from 10:00pm to 1:00am. On Friday nights, old episodes of MTV UnpluggedStorytellers, and live music performances will be the focus. Come the weekend, the channel will roll out marathons of The Real World, Laguna Beach, Road Rules and more.

MTV Classic will kick off its programming at 6am on August 1 with MTV Hour One, MTVs first hour of programming from 1981. Those who turn in will find music videos from The Buggles, Pat Benatar, Rod Stewart, The Who, REO Speedwagon and more. MTV Hour One will repeat again at noon and be followed by the Total Request Live retrospective The TRL Decade, which first aired in January 2012. The station’s inaugural day will then serve up a marathon of stand out episodes of MTV Unplugged featuring Bob Dylan, Alice in Chains, Oasis and others. Come the primetime hour, a block of animated series will air, including Daria, Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux.

To get you pumped for the switcheroo, MTV has released the trailer below. Watch away.
