‘Parasite’ Filmmaker Bong Joon Ho Reddit AMA Today, Get Your Questions Ready

Parasite director Bong Joon Ho will be the man of the hour on Reddit later today when he takes part in an AMA. Starting at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT on Monday, November 4, 2019, fans can ask the Korean filmmaker anything. He might not get to all your burning questions, but we’re sure he’ll try. He’s always been incredibly generous at post-screening Q&As.

Parasite Film PosterParasite, which took the top prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and was all the buzz at the 57th New York Film Festival, is a timely genre-bending dark comedy about two families–one rich and one poor–whose lives become forever entangled.

The film has been preying on the U.S. art-house box office since it opened in theaters on October 11. Recently expanding from 129 screens to 461 nationwide, Parasite has banked over $7.5 million* domestically. Its totals worldwide have topped $100 million*, making it Bong’s highest-grossing film.

Bong has been very visible around the film’s opening as awards season is amping up. He stopped by the New York Film Festival for a Directors Dialogue, which you can watch here. It’s spoiler-free. For those more interested in talks that contain plot points, you can find those here. Also of note is the Academy conversation Bong and actors Park So Dam and Song Kang Ho did with John Horn, that’s here.

How to watch Bong Joon Ho’s pre-Parasite films

If after viewing Parasite you want more Bong, you’re in luck if you live in New York City. Two of Bong’s early films are screening in Film at Lincoln Center’s Relentless Invention: New Korean Cinema 1996-2003 (November 22-December 4). Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000) is screening in 35mm and Memories of Murder (2003) is a new 4K restoration. The Museum of Modern Art is also screening Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000) in 35mm in their series Vision Statement: Early Directorial Works, which runs through December 5. UPDATE: Bong’s The Host is screening in the Late Nites at Metrograph series from November 8-14. For more info, visit Metrograph’s website.

Those not in New York can stream Bong’s older films. Both Memories of Murder (2003) and The Host (2006) can be streamed for free if you’re okay with commercials. Memories of Murder (2003) is available on Popcornflix, while The Host (2006) is on Tubi. A subscription to Monsters & Nightmares might be worth the $2.99/month investment. The service has Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), The Host (2006), and Mother (2009), all playing ad-free. Snowpiercer (2013) is available to stream on Netflix or for rent on various platforms. As for Okja (2017), it’s a Netflix exclusive.

As for tonight’s AMA with the filmmaker, be sure to get your questions ready. It’s happening in the movies Subreddit over here at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT.
