With a hit record under their belts, an appearance on The Late Show, and a big tour on the horizon, The Arcs are officially thing. Originally conceived as a solo project of Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, somewhere along the way The Arcs morphed into a supergroup. The band is made up of musicians Auerbach has a history of collaborating with, including Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, and Nick Movshon. Their debut, Yours, Dreamily, dropped in September via Nonesuch Records.

Sonically, the Arcs are a mash-up of garage rock, soul, Latin and country. In addition to the core group, the record features country guitarist Kenny Vaughan, and the first and only all-female mariachi band Mariachi Flor de Toloache. They recorded in the neighborhood of 40 songs together, and whittled that number down to 13 for Yours, Dreamily. Tchad Blake, who also worked on The Black Keys’ Brothers, El Camino, and Turn Blue, mixed the album on his horse farm in Wales. The LP is available for preview and purchase here.

We had the pleasure of catching the group play one of their first official live shows at Housing Works Bookstore on September 9. It was part of the NPR Music Presents series and found the group, along with members of Mariachi Flor de Toloache, sharing a small stage. The band was noticeably excited to play before an audience and Auerbach attacked each song with fervor. See photos from the performance below or you can watch the show in its entirety here. They also played a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom at the end of September.

Auerbach and gang also had the pleasure of appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They performed “Outta My Mind” off the new record. You can find the video below, as well as a skit Auerbach taped discussing his biggest musical influence. It looks as though he’s on the verge of breaking a smile throughout the entire thing.

Next up, The Arcs head to Europe in November and return to tour the U.S. in December with a string of East Coast and Midwest shows. You can find their schedule below.
