The Kills Announce ‘Ash & Ice’, Share Video for “Doing it To Death”

It’s been a long time coming for The Kills’ next record. The band, composed of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, today announced that their fifth studio album, Ash & Ice, will be released on June 3 via Domino. Along with the news, the band shared a video for the record’s first single, “Doing It To Death,” which you can watch below.

In a post on the group’s Facebook page, they apologized for the wait: “Thank you for your patience while we perfected our craft, sharpened our teeth and made the journey from first note to last.” The delay in coming up with a follow-up to the band’s acclaimed 2011 Blood Pressures is due in part to Jamie Hince’s five hand surgeries, which resulted in him having to re-learn how to play guitar.

Ash & Ice was recorded in a rented house in LA and at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. It was produced by Jamie Hince and co-produced by John O’Mahony (Metric, The Cribs), and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Arcade Fire, Amy Winehouse) and Tchad Blake (Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys). It is available for preorder now at http://thekills.tv.

As for the video, it’s directed by Wendy Morgan, whose other credits include Jangle Monáe’s “Tightrope” & C2C’s “Happy”, and finds the pair among a chorus line of Lincoln Continentals rolling through a graveyard. It has a very Jodorowsky feel.

The Kills set out on tour later this month, including a stop at SXSW, two dates in Brooklyn at Warsaw and Coachella. You can find their entire schedule below.
