Tony Robbins in NYC This Week to Promote Documentary

It’s going to feel like Tony Robbins week in New York City. The world renowned motivational speaker and infomercial king is the subject of a new documentary and he will be in town this week promoting it. Among his scheduled stops are Rooftop Films, IFC Center, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, AOL Build, the Today Show, and Good Morning America. The film will be in theaters starting this week and launches on Netflix on Friday, July 15.

Directed by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger (Metallica: Some Kind of Monster), Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru goes behind the scenes with Robbins’ at his popular Date with Destiny seminar. The annual event, which takes place in Boca Raton, Florida, runs six days and attracts 2,500 people. Shot cinema verité style, the documentary captures both what goes into the production of the massive immersive event, as well as the way Robbins’ methods transform the lives of the seminar participants. The film had its world premiere at SXSW earlier this year. You can watch the trailer below.

For those interested in getting up-close-and-personal with the Unleash the Power Within author, on Monday, July 11, Robbins, along with Berlinger, will be doing a Film Society free talk at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center Amphitheater at 7pm. That same night, the film will be screening in Bushwick as part of Rooftop Films. Shoegaze band Mahogany will be performing before the screening, and after Robbins and Berlinger will be doing a special reverse Q&A, in which they grill the audience members. We aren’t sure exactly how that will go down, but if things get tense, there’s a Stella Artois reception to follow. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.

On Wednesday, July 13, the film opens at IFC Center and Robbins and Berlinger will be on hand to do a Q&A with Executive Producer Brian Koppelman following the 7:00pm screening. They will also introduce the 9:40pm screening. Tickets for these events are available here. (Update: due to popular demand a 7:25pm screening has been added and there will be a Q&A following.)

If you can’t make the above, but are curious to hear what Robbins has to say about the documentary, you can tune into his appearances on Good Morning America, the Today Show, and/or AOL Build. The larger-than-life Robbins will be doing segments on all three on Monday, July 11. For Good Morning America, you can actually tweet questions to @GMA. As for AOL Build, his interview is scheduled for 2:30pm. You can tune in here.
