Ty Segall is some kind of supernatural being. What else could explain his display of musical acrobatics? He’s scoring films. He’s forming new bands. And now, news has come that in 2020 he’ll be balancing tour dates between Ty Segall and the Freedom Band, and Fuzz, his proto-metal outfit with Charles Moothart and Chad Ubovich. This is, of course, good news for Segall’s New York fans. He’ll come through in June with Fuzz and then return in September with the Freedom Band to support his last album, First Taste. After five years, Ty Segall is heading back out on tour with Fuzz

We had an inkling something was up with Fuzz. Someone on Reddit had noticed the band was playing a festival in Spain in July. Now, we see that gig is part of a larger scheme. After not touring for five years, the band is back to rupture our eardrums and crawl deep under our skin. With Segall on drums, Moothart on guitar, and Ubovich on bass, expect some high-intensity gigs. Along with sharing North American dates, the press announcement states: “There will be additional Fuzz-related news in the coming weeks.” It looks like Fuzz III is a go.

Ty Segall serving up ‘First Taste’ with Freedom Band

Segall had also recently announced a string of North American dates with the Freedom Band. These include a four-night residency at Thalia Hall in Chicago similar to the ones he did in 2019 in Los Angeles and New York City. For the residencies, the Freedom Band has comprised Mikal Cronin, Charles Moothart, Emmett Kelly, Ben Boye, and Shannon Lay.

The Ty Segall and the Freedom Band tour announcement came via Segall’s label Drag City. In sharing the news, they made it clear that Segall is not dropping a new album. The tour supports his 2019 “no guitar” release First Taste.

Tickets for the Ty Segall and the Freedom Band dates are already on sale. Tickets for the Fuzz shows go on sale Friday, January 31st at 10am CT.
