Judy Garland, Mariah Carey, and Ariana Grande have all done it, but Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson gave performing from atop a baby grand a new spin last night by bringing his electric guitar along. The innovative staging came during the band’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Nielson is prone to sit for a spell during the group’s dynamic live sets, but a white baby grand doesn’t usually play in. It’s kind of hard to drag a hulky piano along when you’re on the road. However, last night Nielson had fun with having the instrument at his disposal, and used it to turn out a terrific rendition of the title track off his band’s new album Multi-Love. The group continue their touring ways in support of Multi-Love, hitting FYF Fest before heading overseas (see dates below). Also, another national television appearance later this month is in the works, so keep an eye out.
