We knew Vans had a party announcement up their sleeve, but we didn’t realize it was going to be so badass. Today, it was revealed that Blondie is the “special guest” band curating the party on Friday, July 20, and the RSVP is now open (RSVP here). The Debbie Harry-fronted punk-rock group join Deerhunter, Against Me!, Interpol, and Slowdive (who played last week’s party), in helping House of Vans say a fond farewell to their Brooklyn digs.

For Blondie’s party, the group have invited indie-rock queen Liz Phair, and ex-Cherry Glazerr keyboardist SASAMI (who was last seen touring with King Tuff) to join the bill. As for the art component of the evening, Blondie co-founder, songwriter and keyboardist Chris Stein will present photographs from his upcoming book POINT OF VIEW: Me, New York City and the Punk Scene. The book, which features photographs Chris took in New York City in the 1970s, is set for release in October 2018 via Rizzoli. Party goers will be treated to a video and print ‘mash-up’ using Chris’ photos created by visual artist Rob Roth. Blondie’s House of Vans appearance comes in advance of the group’s summer-fall tour (see dates below).

Blondie have their work cut out for them if they plan on outdoing Slowdive’s recent party at the Vans space. Easily one of the best sets we’ve caught at the Greenpoint outpost, Slowdive riveted the capacity crowd with their shoegazey goodness and soothing light show, despite the sweltering New York City heat. Rachel Goswell, Neil Halstead and gang’s hour-plus set featured tunes off their 2017 self-titled album, as well as a mix of older songs. They closed out with a cover of Syd Barrett’s “Golden Hair”.
