The official US trailer for Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Macbeth has arrived, and boy, is it breathtaking. The film premiered at Cannes earlier this year and stars Michael Fassbender as the anti-hero, and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard as his power-hungry wife. If you aren’t up on the film’s director, we suggest getting your eyes on his chilling feature-length debut The Snowtown Murders. The film, which earned a FIPRESCI Prize-Special Mention at Cannes, is a powerful thriller based on the most horrific serial killing spree in Australia’s history. As for what he’s done with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, from the looks of things, he’s dialed up the savage and sinister.

Macbeth was shot on location in Scotland, and also stars Paddy Considine, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor, Elizabeth Debicki and David Thewlis. It received mostly positive reviews coming out of Cannes and will be in select theaters in the US starting December 4.
