Watch Robert Redford as Dan Rather in First Clip from ‘Truth’

Robert Redford Dan Rather Truth Film The first clip of Robert Redford playing Dan Rather has arrived, and from the looks of things, Redford decided to forego changing his physical appearance for the role. As blonde as ever, Redford plays the former CBS Evening News anchor in Truth, a new independent feature based on former 60 Minutes producer Mary Mapes’ memoir Truth and Duty. The book gives a behind scenes look at the 2004 scandal that resulted after Rather reported that George W. Bush received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam war. You can check out the clip that Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on earlier today. It’s only a single minute, but it’s enough to get that Redford has captured Rather’s aggressive spirit.

Truth, which is enjoying its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow, also features Cate Blanchett as Mapes, as well as Toper Grace, Elisabeth Moss and Dennis Quaid in supporting roles. The film is the directorial debut of screenwriter James Vanderbilt, whose writing credits include The Amazing Spider-Man, Zodiac and White House Down. Vanderbilt also adapted Mapes’ book for the screen.

Sony Picture Classics plans on releasing the film in New York and Los Angeles on October 16 with a wide release to follow.
