Phosphorescent, Bill Callahan, Vetiver & More to Play Inaugural Huichica East

Another west coast festival is looking to make a go of it in New York. Huichica, pronounced WA-CHEEK-AH, is launching its first east coast edition in Hudson Valley on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1. A boutique affair that brings together music, food, and wine, Huichica East’s inaugural lineup features Phosphorescent, Bill Callahan, Vetiver, Woods, and more. Tickets are on sale now.

Founded in 2010 by vintner Jeff Bundschu and musician Eric D. Johnson of the Fruit Bats, Huichica is a hyper-curated, super chill get together produced in association with (((folkYEAH!))). The west coast edition takes place on the grounds of Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma, California and is described by Bundschu as being “great music, great produce, and no bad attitudes.” Past performers have included J. Mascis, Cat Power, Silver Apples, Cass McCombs, Jonathan Wilson, Damien Jurado, David Longstreth, Mount Eerie, Allah Las, Atlas Sound, Jessica Pratt, Shannon and The Clams, Heron Oblivion, with special appearances by Bob Weir and Jello Biafra, among others.

As for the east coast endeavor, the two-day family-friendly gathering goes down at Chaseholm Farm, a grass-based dairy and beef farm tucked away in 350-acres of pastures, crop land, woods and waterways located in the Pine Plains. The event has an attendance cap of 800, which means it is relatively intimate by festival standards. Camping is available on-site for a minimal fee.

Huichica East’s lineup includes 16 bands, 8 per day. Friday finds folk hero Bill Callahan headlining with Vetiver, Garth Hudson of the Band, Guy Blakeslee’s Entrance, Kevin Barker’s Currituck Co., Purling Hiss, San Francisco duo Yesway, and Driftwood Soldier playing throughout the day. On Saturday, the fest serves up a solo set by Phosphorescent, as well as performances by Woods, Range of Light Wilderness, Aussie singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin, Mirah, Daniel Romano, Swedish Americana band Baskery, and Lauren Shera.

Tickets for Huichica East are available now here. Two-day passes are $90 and one-day passes are $50, children under 12 are free.
