Brigid Dawson Shares Title Track from Debut Solo Album, ‘Ballet of Apes’ (Listen)

Brigid Dawson has shared another song off the much-anticipated debut album from her new solo project, Brigid Dawson and the Mother’s Network. Have a listen to “Ballet of Apes,” the record’s title track. It’s posted below. A digital version of the record is available for pre-order now on Bandcamp. It drops May 22 via John Dwyer’s Castle Face Records.

“Ballet of Apes” follows the album’s other leaked track, “Is the Season for New Incarnations,” and is a seven-minute bundle of bliss. The shamanic anthem might be lite on lyrics, but it’s high on orchestration. It features the former Thee Oh Sees/OCS singer/keyboardist on vocals and percussion backed by members of Sunwatchers, including Jim Mchugh on guitar, Jason Robira on drums, Jeff Tobias on alto sax, synthesizer, and piano, and Peter Kerlin on upright bass.

The song’s lyrics go as follows:

BALLET OF APES
BRUTE!
AND YOU FEEL
FEEL SO FINE
WALK ON, WALK ON

KING’S VOICE
TRIPS AND FALTERS
AND YOU FEEL GOOD
AND YOU FEEL SO FINE
WALKING UPHILL

As for the album, Dawson recorded Ballet of Apes in studios in Australia, San Francisco, and Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with producers Mikey Young, Michael Donovan and Eric Bauer, and Jon Erickson and the Sunwatchers, respectively. She mixed it at Bauer Mansion, and JJ Golden did the mastering.

In the UK, Castle Face partnered with Dinked on the vinyl release. Dwyer’s label plans on doing a pressing in the US.
