Save the Date: Dîner en Blanc Returns to New York City September 15

We hope you have a stylish white outfit ready to go because Dîner en Blanc has announced its return to New York City. The annual outdoor pop-up soirée will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Of course, the location is a secret, but we do know a little something about registration, which will be done in phases starting Monday, August 22 at noon.

Going strong in Paris for over 25 years, Dîner en Blanc has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, with the first New York dinner taking place at the World Financial Center Plaza (now Brookfield Place) in 2011. The festivities require that everyone dress in white and bring their own tables, chairs, white linens, plates, silverware, and food. The location of the event is kept from diners until they arrive at the site. On the day of the dinner, those registered are given instructions on where to meet their team leader. The leader then escorts the revelers to their final destination.

New York’s 2016 edition will accommodate 5,000 guests, and for the third year, four-time James Beard Award winner Todd English is curating a special menu that can be ordered in advance and picked up onsite. As for beverages department, Moët & Chandon is the official champagne partner in New York, and Apothic Wines is the official national wine partner of Dîner en Blanc in the United States. And, as with the food, beverages will need to be purchased in advance.

In terms of registration for the New York event, preference is given to those who have attended in the past and guests of team leaders. In Phase 2, sponsored guests (i.e., friends of those who registered in Phase 1) can register, with the last phase open to those on the waiting list. If you aren’t in the past guest or know someone categories, we suggest signing up for the waiting list pronto (you can do that here, the list closes at midnight on August 24). And, while you are bringing your own food, table, etc., there is a fee charged when registering to offset the cost of permits, lights, security, and entertainment, along with a membership fee. This year, registration is $37, with a membership fee of $8.

Registration for this year’s event will begin on Monday, August 22 at noon. Those who’ve attended in the past or signed up for the waiting list will receive an email with details on how to register. Additional information can be found at the Dîner en Blanc website. And, for a sneak preview of what’s in store at the event, see below.
