For those who haven’t been taking advantage of all the awesome free outdoor activities to be had in the city, it’s go time because many screening series and festivals, like BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! and Lincoln Center Out of Doors, start to wind down next week. BOOKS: Strand Book Store Pop-Up Coloring Bar
Celebrate National Coloring Book Day at the Strand Book Store kiosk in Times Square where a pop-up coloring bar will be in full effect. This isn’t just for the kids, adults can color too. Sheets and supplies will be provided along with coloring goodies to take home. The event is in partnership with Real Art Therapists of New York and the Times Square Alliance.

MUSIC: BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!: Beirut w/Fabiano do Nascimento
Zach Condon is breaking out his flugelhorn to serenade the masses at this BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! benefit show in Prospect Park. Expect to hear tunes off Beirut’s latest record, No No No, which came out last year. For a refresher, check out their videos for “Perth”, “Gibraltar” and “No No No”.

FILM: Little Cinema No. 22: Man on the Moon // Andy Kaufman vs. Daniel Koren
Little Cinema is doing their immersive film experience thing again, this time taking on Milos Forman’s Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon. This unique event will find musical comedian Daniel Koren battling Andy as played by Jim Carrey and will feature original footage, live comedy and video produced for the occasion. Theatrical dance troupe The Love Show will also be getting on the act. It should be totally absurd, just the way Andy liked it.

FILM: FKA Twigs presents Soundtrack 7
This is a tough ticket to get your hands on, but there will be a standby line to attend the premiere of FKA Twigs’ Soundtrack 7. Directed by the singer-songwriter, the film is an abstract autobiographical piece that was shot at the Manchester International Festival during her week-long residency. It features performances set to “How’s That”, “Ultraviolet,” and “Good to Love” among others along with a repeated recitation of Thomas Wyatt’s poem “I Find No Peace”. Also screening, a short film with songs from M3LL155X.

MUSIC: Shopping, Gauche, Cende, Clouty & The Imagine Nation
UK post-punk trio Shopping are back in Brooklyn amid a two week North American tour. The band, comprised of Rachel Aggs (guitar), Billy Easter (bass) and Andrew Milk (drums), made quite a splash during last year’s CMJ with their energetic performances. To get a sample their hooky, ska-like sound, head here to check out the video for “Straight Lines” off their latest LP Why Choose, out now on FatCat Records. PARTY: Thursday Nights Hosted by Squarespace at Brooklyn Museum
Three amazing happenings go down at this edition of Thursday Nights at the Brooklyn Museum. Artist Juliana Huxtable will be doing a DJ set; musician David Byrne and artist Stephen Powers will be discussing weird america with writer Tom Healy; and Space Jam, the 1996 American live-action-animated sports comedy star starring Michael Jordan, will be screening. The exhibitions are free to check out but some events require a ticket purchase, so check the Brooklyn Museum website for details.

FILM: Rooftop Films: The Bandit
Field trip! Rooftop Films heads to the Queens County Farm to present Jesse Moss’ documentary The Bandit. For the film, Burt Reynolds & Hal Needham recount the strange, wild making of Smokey and the Bandit. The screening is co-presented by CMT and is followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.
