Avoid the Lines, Reserved Seating Theaters in NYC Where ‘Rogue One’ is Playing

If the reviews are any indication, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is sure to see some success at the box office. This could equal long lines at theaters through the holidays. For those interested in avoiding this fate, we recommend, as we did for The Force Awakens, purchasing tickets online to see the film at a theater with reserved seating. Fortunately for New Yorkers, reserved seating theaters are all the rage. You’ll find your options below.

Another thing to ponder is what format is best for viewing Rogue One. Director Gareth Edwards did things a little differently on this Star Wars film. In particular, he shot it using Ultra Panavision 70 lenses, which are the lenses Quentin Tarrantino employed for The Hateful Eight. Edwards used these very special lenses with Alexa 65 large-format 6k digital cameras. What does this mean for the viewer? It means that the film was shot for ultra-widescreen viewing and that the ideal way to catch it is in 70MM IMAX in 2D. Unfortunately for New Yorkers, there aren’t any theaters in the city screening the film this way. You can however catch it in IMAX 3D, 3D, and 2D. Additionally, two theaters in New York City are offering the film in the new fangled 4DX. A format that stimulates all five senses, 4DX comes with high-tech motion seats and special effects including wind, lightning, water, rain and scents that are synchronized with the action on screen. Tickets for a 4DX screening will run you $28.75. If this is too pricey and you’re debating 2D vs 3D, hold onto your dollars, there’s really no need to see Rogue One in 3D.
